The incident involving a blue Ford Focus happened at the Johnson Bridge roundabout at Queen Street in the Co Fermanagh town shortly before 1.55am.

An 18-year-old man was arrested and questioned in relation to the collision and was later released on police bail pending further investigation.

Police believe that six people were inside the car at the time of the incident.

A local PSNI inspector said: "One male aged 23 years old has been taken to a nearby hospital with serious head injuries. His condition is described as critical."

Two women aged 42 and 33 and two men aged 28 and 26 have also been taken to hospital after suffering injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The Johnson Bridge roundabout was closed for a period to allow for investigations, however, it has since been reopened to traffic.
