The 53-year-old man was arrested on Monday after her body was found at Elm Court, off Donegall Pass.
He is due to appear before Belfast's Magistrates Court on Friday.
Neighbours of Patricia Bardon , who are mostly pensioners, have expressed their "terrible shock" after her death.
"It was a terrible shock. That night we couldn't sleep because my flat is facing hers, but there is a big tree behind us and you can't see out, can't hear nothing because there is all double-glazed windows in there, so it was really, really a shock," a neighbour said.
A councillor and member of the Donegall Pass community forum, who lives nearby, said Patricia Bardon moved into her flat under a year ago.
"It's just tragic; it should have been the happiest day of her life. It is just hard to fathom, it really is, particularly it happening in a fold where the elderly and probably the most vulnerable people in our community live. People are fearful and shocked. It's just hard to put into words how we are feeling", Cllr Michelle Bostock told UTV.
It is understood the 51-year-old lived in Australia for some time.
"I believe she has two sons in Australia", Cllr Bostock added.
"It must be devastating for them. To lose a mother at any stage of life is devastating but to lose a mother in such tragic circumstances is even more devastating."
Patricia Bardon never turned up for her wedding reception on Monday.
PSNI officers say they are trying to establish her movements in the days before her death.
"We want to know where Patricia was in the days leading up to her death. If you saw her or spoke to her anytime between Friday August 21 and Monday August 23, my investigation team would like to speak to you", Detective Chief Inspector John McVea said.
The cause of death has not yet been released.
