Patrick Gavin Porter, from Grange on Inch Island, has admitted intentionally exposing his genitals on the Dublin to Derry express bus on 22 June.
He's also admitted carrying out a sex act on the bus in full view of a female passenger.
A police officer told District Judge Barney McElholm that Porter initially denied the offences when he was arrested at the Foyle Street bus depot on the date of the offences.
He was released on bail to attend Strand Road Police Station on Tuesday. There he admitted the offences when he was shown a forty minute long CCTV recording from a safety camera inside the bus of his behaviour.
The officer said Porter received a five month suspended sentence three years ago when he was found committing similar offences in a car parked outside the Magee College building in Derry.
He was also placed on the Sex Offender's Register for seven years.
She said Porter had also been questioned by gardaí for similar offences in the Republic of Ireland, but he'd never been charged.
Refusing bail, Mr McElholm described Porter's behaviour as "absolutely outrageous" and added it must have been distressing for the female passenger.
Porter was remanded in custody and will appear in court again for a video link hearing on 25 September.
