The incident happened in the Pretoria Street area of Stranmillis on Monday afternoon.

A man armed with a knife approached a woman driving a green Toyota Yaris at about 2.10pm.

He threatened her before getting into the vehicle with the woman still inside.

It is believed the man drove off towards the direction of Broomhill Park Central, before letting her out of the car. The vehicle is thought to have then headed towards the Malone Road area.

A green Toyota Yaris was later discovered in the Main Street area of Crumlin. It is believed the car struck another vehicle, but no one was injured.

Two arrests were made - two males aged 17 and 18.

The 18-year-old was charged on Tuesday afternoon with hi-jacking, possession of an offensive weapon, aggravated taking and driving away, possession of Class B drugs, common assault, no insurance and failing to stop.

He is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old was released earlier on Tuesday pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.
