Man charged over Derry weapons haul

A 27-year-old man has been charged with weapons offences following the discovery of a cache of guns, grenades and ammunition in Londonderry last December.

The man was detained by officers from the PSNI Organised Crime Branch in Meadowbank Court, near Queen's Quay, in the city on Saturday morning.

He is accused of two counts of possession of explosives in suspicious circumstances, specifically military high explosive hand grenades.

He has also been charged with five counts of possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances, specifically a sub machine gun, two pistols and firearm magazines and two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon namely a stun gun and CS gas spray.

He is due to appear at Londonderrry Magistrates' Court on Monday.

As is usual procedure all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
