Nine people were arrested after the gang - armed with hammers and baseball bats - were involved in the incident in the Ashgrove area on Thursday evening.

A council worker, his pregnant wife and four-year old daughter, who were in the house at the time, escaped unharmed after they managed to take refuge in a local alleyway.

The man is charged with burglary with intent to commit grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was due to appear at Ballymena Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

The eight other men were released on bail pending further inquiries.
