Man bailed over Whitehead crash

An 18-year-old man arrested in connection with a Co Antrim crash, which left a teenage girl critically ill, has been released on police bail.

The collision between a black Hyundai Santa Fe and a blue Renault Clio happened on the Slaughterford Road in Whitehead shortly before 9pm on Monday night.

The man, who was believed to have been driving a third vehicle - a silver Vauxhall Corsa - at the time of the incident, was detained on suspicion of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily injury.

He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

A 17-year-old girl, who is believed to have been a passenger in the Renault Clio, remained in a critical condition at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast on Wednesday morning.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.
