During the theft, which occurred on Sunday at Ormeau Road, a security guard was threatened by a man armed with a gun, who then made off with the cash box.

Meanwhile, a 34-year-old man was remanded in custody on Wednesday charged with the robbery.

Patrick Joseph McMahon, who is from the city, is accused of being involved in the raid.

McMahon, 34 and of Antrim Close, is charged with robbing a courier of cash to the value of £25,000 and a cash box.

He faces two further counts of handling stolen goods, namely money and a Volkswagen Golf car.

Appearing with him at Belfast Magistrates' Court was Tracy McMahon, 27, of Torrens Avenue in the city. She is charged with assisting offenders.

She was already on bail.

Patrick McMahon did not seek bail during the short hearing and he was remanded in custody.

Both are due to return to court on 10 October.
