At around 5.45pm on Wednesday, while the child was playing in the garden of a home in the Drumenny Road area of Coagh, the man drove into the property's driveway, got out of the car and grabbed the child's arm.

The child's mother, alerted to the incident, managed to chase the man away.

There were no injuries reported.

Police said the man was described as being in his late 50s, 5ft 8" tall with short grey curly hair. He was wearing a long sleeve red jumper and dirty jeans.

He was driving an "old-style" dark blue car, police said, with five-spoke alloy wheels which had a red letter 'S' on the boot.

Police have appealed for anyone who may have information to contact investigating detectives on the non-emergency number 101.
