Man attacked with iron bars in assault

A man has been hospitalised after he was attacked by a masked gang of men with iron bars in a house in west Belfast.

The 22-year-old was assaulted in a property in the Ballygomartin Drive area of the city just after 9.30pm on Friday.

A young woman and a young girl were also in the house at the time of the attack.

They were not injured, police said.

Detective Inspector Trevor Brier added: "The male was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment to injuries to his body, legs and arms. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

"A red Volkswagen Golf parked close to the house was also damaged during the incident. Enquiries are continuing."

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact investigators on the non-emergency line 101 or alternatively information can be passed anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The people that attacked that poor man have nothing positive or useful to contribute to socity. They are nothing but rabble stuck in their own small petty sectarian world. I hope the psni catch and charge them with what was obviously a viscious assault, although I have my grave doubts.

Attacked? This is ridiculous, why is this not a major news story? A man visiting his child is ambushed and beaten with hachets & iron bars for being from another community! What are the politicans saying? Nothing as usual. I hope this man makes a speedy recovery and this family are left alone. They weren't men they are Sectarian cowards!!!!!
