A gang broke a man's hand after slamming it in a van door in Londonderry.
The victim was dragged from his van in the loyalist Fountain estate in Derry and set upon by three men.
As he got into the vehicle at around 9.15pm on Friday, one of the men smashed the window and punched him in the face.
They then pulled him on to the street where he was beaten before they closed the door on his hand.
The victim managed to flee to his nearby home.
He was treated in hospital for a number of injuries, not thought to be life-threatening.
The gang, who wore camouflaged clothing, scarves and hats, spoke with local accents.
Police said they have yet to establish a motive, but it was not immediately believed to be sectarian.
