Man attacked by masked men on scooter

The incident occurred just before 8pm on Saturday at the junction of Grove Street and Grand Street in the city.

The men, who were wearing balaclavas and one of whom may have been carrying a firearm, approached the man and attempted to take his bike which was nearby.

The victim was treated in hospital for cuts and bruises to his head and face after he struggled with the would-be robbers, who made off empty-handed.

PSNI are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them. Detectives are also keen to hear from the driver of a silver Mondeo, who is understood to have stopped and offered assistance to the victim.
