Man assaulted by four men
A man has been assaulted by up to four men in east Belfast.

The victim, who is 56, was walking along Eastleigh Drive at 8pm on Friday, when he was attacked from behind.

The gang tried to rob him but did not manage to steal anything from the man.

He suffered injuries to his face and was treated in hospital.

East Belfast Alliance MLA Naomi Long has expressed disgust at the attack.

"This was a terrible assault and I hope the man who was attacked makes a full and swift recovery" she said.

"It happened in a quiet, residential area and people are deeply concerned at the brutal nature of this attack" she added.

Police are urging witnesses to come forward.
