The incident took place at Kilgreel Road on Saturday between 11am - 11.30am.

Two masked men forced their way into the house assaulting the victim with a metal bar. He received hospital treatment for his injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

A second man who was in the house was not injured.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the aggravated burglary - or anyone who noticed any suspicious behaviour in the area - to come forward.

Alliance Antrim Councillor Neil Kelly has condemned those behind the burglary.

"The people responsible for this burglary are callous and despicable individuals who obviously have no regards for the wellbeing of other people.

"My thoughts are with the victim. I hope he will be able to make a full recovery from the injuries he sustained. People should be able to live in their own homes without the fear of this type of incident taking place," he said.

"If anybody has any information about this burglary then I would urge them to contact the Police. The people responsible must be urgently apprehended and brought before the courts to face justice."

Hope they find the scum that did this. lock them up and throw away the key. Homeowners should be allowed to defend themselves against burglers/intruders by whatever means necessary and the law should be FULLY behind them.
