Man arrested over aerosol explosion

A 47-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a small explosion in Belfast city centre caused by an ignited aerosol can.

He was arrested on Wednesday afternoon in connection with an incident in the Chichester Street and Victoria Street areas overnight on Monday.

Officers were called to the scene shortly after midnight after reports of a small explosion.

Army bomb squad officers discovered that an aerosol can had exploded inside a rucksack.

No-one was injured and there was no serious damage caused to property.

The detained man is currently in custody assisting police enquiries.
