A man has been arrested in connection with a bomb alert on the M1 motorway near Dungannon.

The 20-year-old was arrested by the PSNI's Serious Crime branch in the Newry area on Wednesday. He is being held for questioning at Antrim Serious Crime Suite.

The alert at Tamnamore was sparked by a report of a suspicious object.

Police said a number of items had been taken away for further examination.

On Tuesday night, police warned residents in the Antrim and Andersontown Road areas of Belfast to be vigilant following reports of suspicious devices.

Searches were carried out, but nothing untoward was found.

While the traffic was certainly hectic, you can't claim there was no info or warning Mike. I heard about the closure shortly before 11am yesterday morning and it was constantly mentioned on traffic and news reports on a couple of local radio stations from then. Any suggestions as to how better you could have been informed.

the motorway is still closed as of 1.30pm and it is total chaos traffic wise. No information or warning that the road is closed before embarking onto the motorway east bound which is a disgrace.
