The man who was detained in Newtownabbey on Thursday afternoon has also been linked to an attempted murder of police officers in a gun attack on police vehicles.

He has been taken to Antrim Serious Crime Suite for questioning.

The body of Mr Kearney, 46, was found in a lake in Alexandra Park on 9 October, a day after he had been reported missing. He had been fatally shot.

The father-of-four had been out walking his dogs and the alarm was raised when the animals returned home without him.

In the attack on police, ten shots from a Kalashnikov-type gun hit two PSNI cars which were towing digital signs in the Crumlin Road area on 5 December.
