The body of 50-year-old Pascal McAfee, known as Basil, was found at his house on Henderson Avenue, in the Cavehill Road area of the city, at around 1pm.

It was his mother, believed to be aged in her 70s, who made the discovery.

Police on Monday arrested a 34-year-old man in the south Belfast area. He is currently assisting the PSNI with their inquiries.

Mr McAfee was last seen buying alcohol at an off licence on Cavehill Road on Thursday at around 4pm.

Over the weekend, Detective Chief Inspector John McVea said: "We are keen to know who Basil was with after that time or where he had been. We know that he was discovered at 1pm, but we're not sure just exactly where he's been from 4pm on the Thursday."

Anyone with further information has been asked to come forward to police.
