We all would like to see drugs taken out of the hands of criminals. The only way to do this is to regulate and tax cannabis. Ask any street dealer if they think legalisation of cannabis is a good idea? 9/10 will say "no, if you can buy it from a legitimate cannabis dispensary, then I will be out of pocket big time" Why not hit the criminals where it hurts, IN THEIR POCKETS. We could have a system here in Northern Ireland like in Holland, where cannabis can be sold and consumed in licensed premises. It would create so many jobs here, from farmers to vendors. and tourism would go through the roof. But more importantly, it would stop criminals profiting. Judging by the amounts of cannabis that has been recovered by the police over the last few weeks (£1million+) there are quite a number of tokers here. The police can do their best but they don't even recover 10% and they never will. People who use cannabis understand. They can see it causes no real harm, they get on with their daily lives. They do not regard themselves as criminals. Many will prefer a smoke rather than a drink. The only paranoia comes from the fear of the police kicking down the door because there was a smell of cannabis coming from the window. In 1981, if you were gay, you could be arrested and put in prison, even though it is a private act between consenting adults. Now we have gay rights and homosexuals can no longer be persecuted. in 1988 David Norris took his case (Norris v. Ireland) to the European Court of Human Rights. The European Court strikes down the Irish law criminalising male-to-male sex on the grounds of privacy. Cannabis will be free someday...

There wouldn't be threats posed by drug criminality if the government would wake up to the harm that drug prohibition causes, stop rolling over for the huge pharmaceutical companies, and legalise, tax and regulate the cannabis market. It is a miracle drug, not only capable of treating many ailments but also capable of accumulating so much revenue through taxes that the NHS would be paid for for every citizen of the UK.

".... further evidence of our continued efforts..." but not your continued success Inspector Gills. The police are just doing their jobs by applying a ridiculous set of laws. The law is an ass because whilst his raid was going on and 60 thousand pounds worth of cannabis was recovered a company called GW Pharmaceuticals grow 60,000 high potency, high quality cannabis plants on a science park in kent - with impunity, a government licence and full government approval for their "safe and effective" full plant cannabis extract called Sativex. It's cannabis in a bottle! We have all been conned. These laws exist to protect the pharmaceutical industry and their investors - period.
