The victims were walking along Melrose Street shortly before 4.20am when they were threatened.

The woman handed over her handbag containing a sum of cash and two mobile phones.

The man and woman were not injured - but left shaken by their ordeal.

It is believed the thief made off in the direction of the Lisburn Road.

He is described as being in his early 20s, approximately 6ft tall, of medium build. He was wearing a dark tracksuit top with the hood up.

Police would ask anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has any information to come forward.
