court-gate.
A man who once tried to set fire to Crossmaglen PSNI Station but only managed to scorch his shoes has admitted making bombs and possessing ammunition.

Turlough Robert McAllister, 36, pleaded guilty at Belfast Crown Court on Friday to making and possessing explosive substances with intent to endanger life.

He also admitted two counts of possessing ammunition with intent to endanger life and to possessing a document likely to be useful to terrorists between August and September 2008.

The charges relate to police uncovering quantities of crushed ammonium nitrate fertiliser, bullets for a shotgun and rifle and a handbook containing information on improvised munitions.

Remanding McAllister, from the Lisarraw Road in Crossmaglen into custody, Mr Justice Hart adjourned passing sentence until the end of January 2010 when pre-sentence reports have been compiled.

Back in 2003 McAllister was handed a suspended sentence for trying to set fire to Crossmaglen police station with a petrol bomb in November 2002.

During interviews ten days after the botched attack, officers noticed that McAllister was wearing the same scorched shoes he wore on the night he threw a petrol bomb at the station.
