Stewart Lindsay is also alleged to have inflicted grievous bodily harm on a man in the city.

The 27-year-old was arrested following the incident at Rockland Street in the Village area early on 12 July.

Lindsay, of nearby Rockview Street, Belfast, faces charges of possessing offensive weapons, making a threat to kill, causing grievous bodily harm with intent and two counts of common assault.

As he appeared before Belfast Magistrates' Court on Monday no further details of the alleged offences were disclosed.

However, his lawyer confirmed plans to apply for bail next week.

Lindsay was remanded into custody until 21 July.
