A Co Londonderry man has appeared in court accused of spying on his teenager neighbour for up to five years.

Rodney Seffen, a 38-year-old graphic designer from Magherafelt, faces four charges of voyeurism.

Londonderry Magistrates Court was told the accused had set up an elaborate video system with a camera positioned between the slates of his roof, close to the chimney.

It was claimed the camera had been in place for up to five years and zoomed in to the bedroom of a teenage girl who lived across the street.

The girl is said to have been 12-years-old when the recording started.

'Laughable'

Footage of the girl's room was recorded and live pictures were allegedly fed to a monitor in the accused's kitchen.

The court heard images were also recorded onto his computer.

Police said Seffen had shown no sign of remorse.

In applying for Seffen to be released on bail, his defence solicitor said he denied having set up the camera for the purpose of sexual gratification.

The accused claimed the images were for his work as a graphic designer and that he used the videos to help create three-dimensional figures and computer models.

District Judge Desmond Perry said this excuse was "nothing short of laughable" and remanded Seffen in custody.

The case continues.
