It's believed a gang of three men were involved in the attack at around 11pm, when they broke into a house in the Osborne Street area.

Two men ran upstairs and the man was shot in his right knee.

Another man and a woman who were also present in the house at the time were held at gunpoint in a downstairs room by one of the gang.

The man who was shot was taken by ambulance to Altnagelvin Hospital.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on the non-emergency number, 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
