Twenty-two-year-old Sascha Machala, who once went to a police station to remove an electronic tagging device from his ankle because it interfered with his act, was charged with stealing a car five days ago.
He's also accused of stealing £3500 worth of photographic and computer equipment from the car.
Among the other charges he faces are driving while disqualified and having no insurance.
A lawyer for Machala, whose address was given as Uprichard Crescent in Bangor, told the High Court in Belfast on Friday that his client said he found the car keys on the pavement and decided to take the vehicle.
Bail was refused after a prosecution lawyer said police feared Machala could re-offend.
He revealed that the accused had already been arrested twice this month on drugs and shoplifting charges.
