The leader of the Progressive Unionist Party is to introduce a bill in the Assembly which aims to end double-jobbing between the Assembly and local councils.

Dawn Purvis is tabling a measure at Stormont in a bid to disqualify members of the assembly from being a councillor.

The issue was highlighted last November by Sir Christopher Kelly during his review of MPs' allowances and expenses.

He said ideally the practice of double jobbing or dual mandates should end in 2011.

The Conservative party introduced amendments that could lead to the end of double jobbing in December.
