Notorious loyalist killer Torrens Knight who beat up two sisters inside a Coleraine bar will have to wait for his punishment after a planned sentencing hearing was adjourned.

Knight, who was convicted of 12 murders during the Troubles, including those of eight people in the infamous Greysteel massacre, has already had his early release licence suspended and been returned to prison following the guilty verdict in last month's assault trial.

The 40-year-old had been due to be brought from Maghaberry jail to Coleraine Magistrates Court on Friday morning to find out what additional sanctions he is to face for the aggravated assault and disorderly behaviour convictions.

The sentencing has now been put back to next Wednesday at Antrim court.

He was convicted last month of attacking the sisters in a bar in Coleraine.

A district judge in Coleraine Magistrates' Court convicted Knight of punching Caroline Nicholl to the ground and then kicking her before turning his fists on her sister Rosemary Sutherland inside the Blackthorn bar in the Co Londonderry town last May.

Knight was a member of the Ulster Freedom Fighters gang that burst into the Rising Sun bar in Greysteel, Co Londonderry on Halloween in 1993 and opened fire.

He was also convicted of the murders of four Catholic builders in the nearby town of Castlerock earlier that year.

He served seven years before he was released in 1998 under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement.

The Life Sentence Review Commissioners are now examining the case to decide whether the suspension of the licence was justified and if the killer should serve out the remainder of his murder sentences.
