A 27-year-old man named locally as David Warnock from Richhill, Co Armagh, died in the accident, while a third man, believed to be aged 60, is in a critical condition in hospital.

The men were part of a Portadown angling club and had been out fishing when their boat capsized on Thursday afternoon in Co Westmeath.

Volunteer anglers and divers along with the Garda Sub Aqua were deployed on Saturday to the area where two casualties were found.

The search area was extended north and south following new information from one of the casualties, but efforts were wound down in the early evening after nothing was found.

It will continue at first light on Sunday.

Damian Delaney, from RNLI Lough Ree Lifeboat, said: "We'll review what was covered today and what was achieved and then we'll agree on a strategy for tomorrow.

"The aim is that the search will continue until this man is found."
