Administrators have been appointed to the company which owns the Lough Erne 5 Star Hotel and Golf Resort in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh.

The luxury resort, which opened in 2007, is located on a 600 acre peninsula between Castle Hume Lough and Lower Lough Erne and features the first golf course designed by Nick Faldo in Ireland.

On Thursday, John Hansen and Stuart Irwin of Belfast accountancy firm KPMG were appointed as Joint Administrators of Castle Hume Leisure Limited.

John Hansen of KPMG said: "It is our intention to continue trading and keep this outstanding resort open for "business as usual'' including weddings and all other bookings. The Joint Administrators will seek to find a new owner however, in the meantime it is our intention to keep the business open and indeed drive the business forward at every opportunity."

He said that they hope no jobs will be lost.

"It is early in the Administration process, but our intention at present is to keep the workforce intact. We will keep all matters under review in the coming days and weeks."

An experienced hotel operator has been appointed to assist in the ongoing management of the resort in order to keep trading, meet current bookings and reservations and to secure future bookings for the resort.

The Joint Adminstrators said they hope to sell the resort as a going concern.

Mr Hansen said: "Given the great location and our stated intentions we hope that people will continue to book and our immediate objective is to secure operations, honour bookings and work with the existing staff. We will look at selling the resort in due course."

this white elephant project was doomed from the beginning. the hotel, restaurant, golf club and real estate were priced to appeal specifically to the elite but unfortunately fermanagh is sparsely populated and therefore has a limited number of upper middle class folks to support this establishment. i totally agree with the poster who made the point that this venue is very overpriced. quality is not an issue but if pricing was adjusted down to appropriate levels, there would be sufficient numbers of local clientelle to support this venture.

To comment on the above statements, can i just ask when was the last time anyone visited the resort? Having recently stayed i did not pay £400 for a room, and when checking pricing at the moment a stay over B&B is costing £249. As for the prices of the coffee and scones, from my recent visit a coffee cost £3.50 and the portion of scones which there was 2, was £3.00. All food from what i can remember has a 10% gratuity charge, which from my knowledge in any hotel, is not compulsory, and you can ask for it to be taken off. In response to David, would you not consider the Lough Erne competition to the K Club, and if not, why so?

In reply to "Julie", I'm sorry, but your presumption is entirely wrong!. I had a choice to vote for neanderthals, convicts, freeloaders ,do nothings and know alls in early May, but I like nearly 50% of eligible voters were not moved to vote for any such completely uninspiring candidates.
