Two men escaped the fire at the building on Carlisle Road in the city which happened on Saturday.

Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service received a report of the fire at the four storey building, which has a shop on the ground floor, just after 6pm.

Two men were present at the time - a 29-year-old man on the first floor and a man in his 40s on the fourth floor. They were alerted to the fire by a working smoke alarm.

The 29-year-old escaped by jumping from the first floor window. He suffered minor cuts to his hands and was treated by the ambulance service at the scene.

The man in his 40s was rescued by fire crews wearing breathing apparatus. He was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and was taken to hospital.

PSNI are still investigating the cause of the fire but are treating it as suspicious.
