'Shining moment in history'

NI Secretary of State Own Paterson has hailed what he described as "a moment in Northern Ireland's history that will shine in our collective memory".

He added: "The incredible event at Stormont this afternoon was the culmination of an outstandingly successful two-day Jubilee visit to Northern Ireland.

"Over 25,000 people were at Stormont expressing their gratitude for Her Majesty's 60 years of dedication and service to the whole of the United Kingdom.

"It's been a very special visit, in a very special Diamond Jubilee year. The warmth and respect for the Queen demonstrated by the people of Northern Ireland has been overwhelming."

When the Queen met the President

One of those who got the chance to chat with Her Majesty earlier, looking very relaxed at the Lyric theatre, was Irish president Michael D Higgins ...

He describes his meeting with the Royals as "brief, but very warm" and added: "I conveyed to Her Majesty my wish, during my term in office, to avail of all appropriate opportunities to build on that very encouraging template of enhanced British-Irish relationships."

Norman, do you realize you post implies that the queen is not a woman of principle? Not a very good "subject" are we!

Jim McMullen. The Queen wore GREEN on her visit here as she did last year down south. Do you think she's trying to tell you something as the English usually are? It's called a reality check. The Royal Family are the English Royal Family. Get it into your head.

No time for victims of the IRA comments .have you UTV. still hailing this as a good day for ulster. hypocrisy. when we know the nature of this handshake.Martin never. I repeat never give any thought to the victims of the IRA otherwise he would confess the evil he brought about. Many family tables have someone missing. Martin being in command of the IRA gang could bring some closure to the family grief. All we ever hear about is Rosmary Nelson Pat Finucane and the Army and RUC name dragged through the gutter. When will someone ask for Martin McGuinuss to give the victims of the IRA justice until then he is never to be a statesman. As for this handshake it is not for two equal persons.

The final subjugation of Irish Republicism - THAT is how history will see McGuiness’s handshake with Her Majesty. Republicism has finally "bent the knee" and accepted British rule! ha, ha, ha!
