Letter bomb found during Derry alert

A viable device has been found at a postal sorting office in Londonderry, police have confirmed.

A suspect package sparked the alert at the premises on Great James Street on Thursday afternoon. The device was discovered in a white A4 envelope with the address written in grey typed stencil. The PSNI has urged members of the public to be vigilant and to report any similar packages to them immediately.Justice Minister David Ford has condemned those behind the parcel bomb."Yet again we have a cold blooded attempt to cause death or serious injury. Those behind this device do not care who they hurt or injure and have nothing positive to offer."I would ask people to continue to be vigilant and report anything suspicious to the police," the Alliance Party leader added.Theresa Villiers, the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, said: "I condemn this evening's attempted attack."Once again these individuals have demonstrated a completed disregard for our postal workers and the local community. Anyone with any information should pass it to PSNI."
