The First and Deputy First Ministers are to press ahead with their plans for the Justice Minister's job.

Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness want Alliance Leader David Ford to continue in the role, but in turn the Department for Employment and Learning will cease to exist.

It means Mr Ford's party would lose one minister in Dr Stephen Farry, who currently runs DEL.

His department could be abolished as early as June and its duties split between the Department of Education and the Department of Enterprise - which are run by Sinn Féin and the DUP respectively.

Mr Ford was elected Justice Minister in April 2010 by a cross-community vote.

His stewardship of DOJ was due to end this may but he will now retain control.

Plans for the move were put forward at Stormont last week by Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness and a consultation was held.

Mr Ford called the proposals a "deeply irresponsible power grab" by the two parties, while Mr Robinson argued it represents a good deal for Alliance.

Brilliant Northern Ireland the only place in the free western world ruled by a dictatorship!! As much as I have my own personal reservations about the clown of a Justice Minister for the loss of my own private and security information. I’d bet my pension this man will not have the personal integrity or will to resign his post as Minister as reported in the Media. No I’ll bet he’d rather carrying on as this over paid under worked post at the cost of the Northern Irish Taxpayer. Seriously when will we wise up and make these eejits redundant and onto the dole queue where they belong and let them dictate to the Social Security Agency.

I wonder has Mr.Ford got the guts to stand up for his party or will he turn turtle and claim these changes are for the greater good and remain in his present role? Interesting times.
