Kevin McGeever was found wandering barefoot along a rural roadside near Ballinamore, Co Leitrim, last month.

The 68-year-old, who was treated for malnutrition, told garda he had been abducted in Co Galway in May last year and was reported missing by his partner the following month.

He said he was lifted at gunpoint and held hostage at an unknown location, where thieves scrawled the world 'thief' into his forehead.

When taken to Ballinamore Garda Station, the former tycoon asked for a curry chip.

He was arrested at his Galway home on Thursday and is being held for wasting garda time and making false allegations.

A garda spokesman confirmed a 68-year-old man had been arrested in relation to the ongoing investigation into the abduction.
