An attack on three Italian students in Londonderry has been condemned.
One of the victims sustained a serious injury to his eye in the assault, believed to have been carried out by two men.
The incident happened close to a shop on the Strand Road at about 2am on Wednesday.
Investigating police have appealed for information from any witnesses.
They have described one of the culprits as 5'6 and of heavy build, with blond hair and a pierced tongue, wearing jeans, a blue pullover and white trainers.
The second alleged attacker is said to be tall and of thin build with dark hair.
Derry City SDLP councillor Mark H Durkan said those responsible had tarnished what had otherwise been a peaceful and successful St Patrick's Day celebration in the city.
"I hope that the victims have recovered from this ordeal and that they realise that the actions of these drunken yobs are not reflective of the vast majority of the people in Derry," the Northland councillor said.
"I would appeal to anyone with information about this attack to bring it forward to the police so that these thugs can be brought to justice."
