The 18-year-old was last seen in a hotel in Londonderry last Thursday morning, with his friend Alexandra O'Brien.
She was described as a vulnerable woman, and had travelled to Derry after she checked out of a hospital in Dublin.
The 21-year-old's body was recovered from the Foyle on Thursday.
It is feared the two have died in a double drowning, as hopes for finding Kieran fade.
Craig Smith, from Foyle Search and Rescue, said teams resumed their search on Monday morning.
"We've had a low tide and we've been out since about 6.30am doing a search with the Irish coastguard.
"We've also had the Coastguard from Coleraine, we've had a crew doing a land search," he explained.
As the search for Kieran extended into Lough Foyle, the Irish coastguard joined in the operation.
"There was no 100% (certainty) that he had entered the water but also no confirmation that he hadn't," added Mr Smith.
"Until we get a bit of clothing or a body or some information from the PSNI that a search is no longer required we will keep searching."
