The 30-year-old man was found to be working illegally at a takeaway restaurant in Limavady by Border Agency officers.

Acting on intelligence, the UK Border Agency officers visited the Kebab Hut takeaway on Shackleton Drive on Thursday evening.

The Pakistani man was arrested after checks showed that he had overstayed his visa.

The illegal worker is now in immigration detention in Larne while steps are taken to remove him from the UK.

Mike Golden of the UK Border, said: "Foreign nationals who are in this country illegally should be in no doubt that they will be found, arrested and removed from the UK.

"Companies that think they can undercut competitors by employing illegal workers should be warned that they will face heavy fines and possible prosecution."

The Kebab Hut now faces a potential fine of up to £10,000, in respect of the illegal worker, unless it can prove that it carried out proper pre-employment checks.
