A number of homes were evacuated following a gas leak in Newry, Co Down.

Police and fire crews attended the scene in the Crieve Road area of the city on Friday.

Crieve Road was closed for a time between Cairn Hill and Rathfriland Road.

It has now reopened.

A PSNI spokesman said residents have been allowed to return to their homes.
