A suspect device was reported in the O'Neill Road area on Thursday evening.

Police and army bomb squad officers were called but the item was found to be a hoax.

The road was closed for a time but has now been reopened.

There have been three security alerts this week in Newtownabbey - a device temporarily closed the M5 motorway on Tuesday night, while another forced a number of homes to be evacuated in the Altnacreeva Park area on Wednesday. The three have all turned out to be hoaxes.

Police have asked anyone with information to come forward.
