Downpours will hit Co Antrim and Co Down - with the yellow warning in place until 9pm.

The thundery, wet conditions are affecting many parts of the UK, including the eastern fringes of Northern Ireland.

Some areas that will be hit by stormy conditions can expect over 20mm of rain in an hour, which could cause localised flooding.

"The public should be aware of the potential for localised flooding due to the intensity of the downpours although the location of the heaviest rainfall remains uncertain," a Met Office spokesperson said.

A Roads Service spokesperson advised road users to exercise caution when travelling.

It should become brighter later in the afternoon with some sunshine, though more isolated heavy showers are still possible.

The day will be humid, with the maximum temperature reaching 17 degrees.
