A yellow 'Be Aware' alert is in place beginning at 9pm on Sunday night through to 7am on Monday.

It will affect counties Antrim, Armagh, Down, Derry and Tyrone.

The UK Met Office said:"Rain developing on Sunday evening will become persistent and heavy overnight before clearing soon after dawn on Monday. Rainfall accumulations of 10-20 mm are expected with 30 mm over high ground.

"The rain will fall on already saturated ground, so the public should be aware of the risk of localised flooding."

A Roads Service spokesperson added: "Road users should exercise extreme caution when travelling."

Meanwhile, police are continuing to advise motorists across Northern Ireland to drive with extra care on Sunday due to reports of black ice on exposed or untreated roads.
