The head of the Information Commission in Northern Ireland has been dismissed after allegedly leaking confidential details about an internal investigation into his own conduct.

Aubrey McCrory was suspended last year pending an investigation, following claims of inappropriate conduct

A spokesperson for the body said that it had come to their attention that confidential information relating to that investigation had appeared in the press.

In a statement the ICO said they had "investigated the matter and concluded that Aubrey McCrory had breached confidentiality."

It went on: "We consider this to be gross misconduct and therefore Aubrey McCrory has been dismissed from his position as Assistant Commissioner - Northern Ireland with immediate effect."
