Two men brandishing guns were photographed at Carlisle Parade in the New Lodge on Monday night.

They were standing at a gable wall which had graffiti daubed on it stating: "Action against drugs, drug dealers will be shot".

Victims' campaigner Raymond McCord told UTV: "I was out on the street. One of them came over to me and told me to shoot it - to take photographs of it.

"It was a frightening experience when you see a dozen or so hooded men and several of them carrying handguns."

Mr McCord said that he believed the group behind the threat 'Action Against Drugs' are Republican paramilitaries.

"In the Nationalist areas, there's a major drugs problem. Some people see this as a way of dealing with the drugs problem - they shoot the drug dealers or people associated with them.

"They say people in this area are selling drugs - they know who they are and they intend to shoot them."

A PSNI spokeswoman said: "Detectives in north Belfast are investigating an alleged incident whereby armed men used paint to write a statement which was threatening in nature, on the wall of a residential property in the New Lodge area on Monday night at around 9pm.

"Police would ask anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any information to contact detectives at Tennent Street on the non-emergency number 101, or anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

These are a local group of hoods seeking to extort drug dealers. They offer nothing to the community and are committed to no cause beyond lining their own pockets with the proceeds of the drugs trade.

I suppose ‘Drug dealers will be shot (but only the ones that don’t sell our gear)’ wouldn't fit so neatly on that wall?

Obviously these pariahs aren't getting a big enough cut of the money made, so threats are the best way to ensure this happens. Drug dealers are scum but these self proclaimed good guys are the real bottom feeders the ones who suck the life out of all districts and are interested in only two things Money and Control

It's time for the PSNI to step up to the plate and start dealing with the Drug dealers. They know who the are, but are prepared to give them a free run , as long as the intelligence keeps flowing . The people of the New Lodge have suffered enough through out the conflict , we don't want Drug dealers killing are community , we don't want these paramilitarys , who are just as bad at killing are community as well. Are community has got to get together before more kids are killed by drugs or paramilitarys . Politicians with the New Lodge community need to challenge the PSNI , DRUG DEALERS , and para military's at every opportunity .
