A gun has been seized and six men arrested as part of a pro-active operation into suspected dissident republican activity, a police spokesman said.
Officers from the Serious Crime Branch searched two cars in the west Belfast area at around 10pm on Tuesday.
A firearm and number of items were taken away for further forensic examination.
Police said all six men have been taken to Antrim Serious Crime Suite for questioning.
