Girl struck by lorry in east Belfast

A young girl is being treated in hospital after being struck by a lorry in east Belfast.

It is understood the 10-year-old was cycling in the Upper Newtownards Road area when the crash happened at around 8.45am on Thursday.She was treated at the scene before being taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Hospital.Police said the child's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.Emergency teams attended the scene of the single-vehicle crash, close to the Tesco Express at Ballyhackamore, which is understood to have involved a seven-tonne lorry.Fire crews from Central and Knock stabilised the lorry and assisted ambulance personnel.They said the incident was dealt with at around 9.10am. Police said the road was closed to traffic in both directions and motorists travelling citybound were advised to expect delays.
