G8 patrol police rescue tourists on lough

Two elderly Scottish tourists have been rescued on Lough Erne by a police patrol after their cruiser ran aground.

The couple, who were described by police as being "distressed," got into difficulty when the vessel got stuck in shallow waters.

Officers were patrolling the Co Fermanagh lough on Saturday, 25 May as part of their familiarisation training for the forthcoming G8 summit at the luxury Lough Erne resort when the incident happened.

They managed to assist the visitors and dislodge their vessel.
