Police uncovered the drugs following raids on properties in the north, south, east and west of the city on Wednesday and Thursday.

A large factory containing £330,000 of cannabis plants was discovered at Hughenden Avenue.

It came after linked searches at Greenville Road uncovered £60,000 of the drug, while a further £20,000 was seized from the Evelyn Avenue area.

Police believe the operation was run by a major criminal gang in the city.

On Friday a 30-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman were arrested by detectives from the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch.

Two men, aged 25 and 48, and a 39-year-old woman have also been arrested on suspicion of drugs trafficking offences.

All five are currently in custody assisting police with their enquiries.
