The pair, aged 35 and 37, are accused of possession of explosions with intent to endanger life, possession of articles for terrorist purposes and conspiracy to cause an explosion.

They are due to appear at Londonderry Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

A third man, aged 37, has been released unconditionally by PSNI.

All three men were detained on Sunday.

A 31-year-old man who was arrested in the city on Tuesday, has also been released unconditionally.

Police seized four live mortars after they intercepted a modified Citroen Berlingo van on the Letterkenny Road area, close to the border with Donegal.

A senior PSNI officer said "mass fatalities" were avoided when the plot to target the station was foiled.
