A number of flats had to be evacuated in Bangor after an oil tank was set on fire, in an incident which police are treating as arson.

It was reported in the Victoria Road area of the Co Down town at around 10.40pm on Tuesday.

Police and NI Fire and Rescue crews responded, moving a number of people from their homes as they dealt with a burning oil tank near the building.

Substantial damage was caused to two flats but there were no reports of injuries.

Police said the incident is being treated as arson.

They want to speak to two youths seen in the area at the time. Anyone with further information has been asked to come forward.
