The men got into difficulty on the lough just after 4am.

They became disorientated and lost track of their exact position, forcing them to contact the emergency services.

Lifeboats from Ardboe and Kinnego were launched and the PSNI's helicopter was scrambled to the area to help with the search operation.

The boat was located a short time after the initial call and responders were able to escort the vessel to shore.

Laurence Cumming from the Coastguard said: "Conditions, thankfully, were very good. There were good clear skies and good visibility.

"The persons on board were all safe and well, they were all in communication with us throughout via mobile phone and were reporting their condition on a regular basis.

"We would request that persons taking to the water, in a night passage particularly, to pay attention to navigation and their ability to navigate in the early hours of the morning."

Why is this picture of a RNLI boat. The rescue boats on lough neagh arent run by the RNLI. They are an independent organisation.
